Why I Don’t Include On-Location Rehearsals (and Why You Probably Don’t Need One)
A question I’m often asked is whether my packages include an on-location rehearsal — and the short answer is no. My packages are priced accordingly, because I genuinely don’t believe a full rehearsal is necessary to have an amazing, seamless ceremony.
How I Help You Feel Prepared (Without a Rehearsal)
Instead, I have an in-depth phone call with each couple in the week leading up to their wedding. During this chat, we go over every detail of the ceremony and check in for any last-minute changes. This approach gives couples all the clarity and confidence they need to feel prepared for the big day.
It’s Not a Performance — It’s a Moment
My philosophy around weddings is that they’re not a performance. The most meaningful part of a ceremony is what happens between you two when you’re standing there, sharing that moment with your guests — something that can’t really be rehearsed.
Of course, it’s still important that everyone looks well-organised and comfortable on the day. I have my own ways of ensuring this happens naturally and seamlessly. We never begin until everyone is in the right spot, and I quietly guide your wedding party while you take a breath and get ready to begin.
Why Flexibility Beats Perfection
While rehearsals can sound like they’ll make everything “perfect,” experience has shown me that no amount of practice can prepare for the real-life flow of the day. We often make small adjustments to suit the styling, lighting, or the needs of your photographer and videographer — flexibility is key to capturing those beautiful, natural moments.
If you’d like a little extra peace of mind, I recommend visiting your ceremony location with your bridal party the day before. Have a quick walk-through, get a feel for the space, and take note of where you might like to stand. Doing this around the same time of day as your ceremony is helpful to see how the light will fall and ease any pre-ceremony jitters.
The Bottom Line
In my experience, thoughtful preparation and calm confidence go much further than a run-through ever could — and that’s exactly what I’ll help you create.
If you do feel strongly about having a full rehearsal at your venue, of course I’m more than happy to attend — it can be added to your package for $200 plus travel.
